Mission Statement

Friends of Forman Christian College is dedicated to supporting the high-quality educational mission of Forman Christian College (A Chartered University) to develop informed, ethical, and responsible citizens of Pakistan who exemplify the University motto,

“By love serve one another.”

Core Beliefs

As an ecumenical organization rooted in the Reformed and Presbyterian Church traditions that contributed to Forman’s founding, we honor the core beliefs of the common Christian faith as expressed in the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds (the “universal” creeds accepted by Protestant, Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches around the world).

Our Role

Friends of Forman serves as a trusted bridge between donors and impact, working in close partnership with FCCU leadership to align donor priorities with the university’s mission and long-term goals.

We do not operate academic programs directly. Instead, we support the structures, resources, and opportunities that allow FCCU’s faculty, students, and leadership to flourish today and for generations to come.

  • 1864 Missionary Dr. Charles W Forman founds Forman Christian College
  • 1902 FCCU becomes the first college to admit women in the Punjab region
  • 1928 Land for the current campus is purchased
  • 1940 The current campus in Lahore is opened
  • 1972 Pakistan government nationalizes the college
  • 1987 Pakistan Christians win a Supreme Court case to regain college independence
  • 2003 The church reassumes ownership of the college from the government, and Friends of Forman is established
  • 2004 FCCU gains a University Charter from the Punjab government
  • 2005 Western-style liberal arts four-year Baccalaureate program started
  • 2006 FCCU joins the Global Liberal Arts Alliance as the only member in Pakistan
  • 2007 Postgraduate programs introduced
  • 2024 FCCU granted Candidate status for Accreditation by the New England Commission of Higher Education, continuing the process toward full US accreditation

WHY FRIENDS OF FORMAN EXISTS

Friends of Forman exists to provide a trusted, U.S. based philanthropic partner for individuals, families, churches, and institutions seeking to support Forman Christian College University (FCCU) in Lahore, Pakistan. We direct donor support and serve as trustee for the university’s land, ensuring contributions are stewarded responsibly, transparently, and in alignment with Forman’s long-term mission.

Friends of Forman was incorporated in 2003, when Forman returned to Presbyterian Church ownership following thirty years of government control. At the time of its return, the campus required significant restoration, and there was no U.S. based vehicle to raise funds for critical repairs or to provide much-needed scholarships for students. Friends of Forman was created to meet that need, bridging supporters in the United States with Forman’s renewal and future.

For more than twenty years, Friends of Forman has directed donor support to Forman Christian College University to fund need-based scholarships, leadership and academic programming, and strategic campus infrastructure. Through this stewardship, donors have helped make possible new facilities such as the Cheryl Burke Hope Tower for Women, the Jim Tebbe Campus Center, Light of Hope Elementary School, the Mercy Health Center, new faculty housing, and the full renovation of multiple student hostels and staff residences. Together, these investments strengthen Forman Christian College University’s ability to educate students and develop leaders across Pakistan, today and for generations to come.
