From Student to Scholar: How Forman Scholarships Transform Lives and Communities

A Journey of Discovery and Growth

Walking across the beautiful Forman Christian College campus, alumnus Yasir shares his remarkable story of transformation. Now a literature professor at Edwards College in Peshawar, Yasir’s journey exemplifies how educational opportunities can create ripple effects that extend far beyond individual achievement.

“I have been a proud Formanite,” Yasir reflects, “and the fact that I was given multiple scholarships during my studies at Forman has shaped everything I do today.”

Multiple Scholarships, Multiple Opportunities

Yasir’s educational journey at FCCU was supported through two significant scholarships. First, he received the Interfaith Scholarship, funded by Friends of Forman supporters, for his Bachelor’s degree in Literature. Later, he was awarded the Rector Scholarship through the generosity of Dr. Jonathan Addleton for his postgraduate studies.

These scholarships didn’t just cover tuition costs, they opened doors to personal discovery. “It was this journey from inside out and outside to the inside,” Yasir explains. “It was a two-way journey for me to discover myself, my abilities, my potentialities.”

The Forman Difference: Pluralism in Action

What set Forman apart for Yasir was its “eclectic environment” and “pluralist approaches”…exactly what Pakistani society needs. This inclusive educational model prepared him not just academically, but culturally and socially for leadership in his community.

“It’s the perfect institution that inculcated those values in me,” he notes, referring to the principles of tolerance, brotherhood, and cross-cultural understanding that define the Forman experience.

Paying It Forward Through Education and Culture

Today, Yasir channels his Forman education into meaningful community impact. As a literature professor, he’s training the next generation of scholars. Beyond the classroom, he organizes the Peshawar Literature Festival and leads international conferences that bring together voices from different cultures and backgrounds.

He’s also pioneering climate litigation from legal and literary perspectives, demonstrating how a liberal arts education creates innovative thinkers who tackle complex challenges.

Living the Interfaith Scholarship Mission

The Interfaith Scholarship that supported Yasir’s undergraduate studies carries special meaning. It’s designed to build bridges between communities. Yasir embodies this mission through his friendships across religious lines and his thoughtful reflections on Christian holidays like Easter and Christmas.

“These are the investments that are done in me,” Yasir says humbly. “If I would not have been at Forman, I would not have been able to do such things because I would not have awareness regarding all those issues that I’m addressing these days.”

Your Impact Creates Lasting Change

Yasir’s journey is more than an individual success story. It is a living reflection of FCCU’s motto, “By love serve one another.” Through his teaching and leadership, Yasir carries forward the legacy and values instilled at Forman.

The scholarships that supported Yasir were more than financial aid. They laid the foundation for a life of service. This investment creates a ripple effect far beyond the classroom, building bridges in communities and shaping leaders who will guide the future with knowledge, ethics, and responsibility.

When you support scholarships at FCCU, you help advance Forman’s mission to transform students into scholars and leaders who serve with love.
