LIGHT OF HOPE GROWS!

MOVING AHEAD AT LIGHT OF HOPE SCHOOL: GOOD NEWS COMES IN THREES

Light of Hope, the elementary school on the campus of Forman Christian College, has three exciting pieces of news to share. Built primarily for the children of FCCU’s mostly illiterate lowest-paid workers, the first good news is that the 2020 fall semester opened in stages during the last week of September. Government guidelines allowed for grades 9 and 10 to return first, followed by grades 6 through 8, and finally, K through 5. Total enrollment in fall 2019 was 275. We await the number for this term.

In response to COVID-19, there are reminders to wear masks, wash hands, and stay socially distanced. Temperatures are taken as everyone enters the building.

In Pakistan, all tenth-grade students who wish to advance to Intermediate level schooling must pass a board matriculation exam. The second very exciting piece of news is the Light of Hope School’s recent affiliation with the Lahore Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education. This formal registration is a proud achievement for the staff and faculty of the school who worked to meet the standards required for approval. This fall begins the first academic year for Light of Hope to have all grades (K-10), and the tenth-grade students will take their exams in March 2021.

The final piece of good news is the expansion of Light of Hope School. Because of the success of the school, a second building is in the planning and approval stages. This new 3-story building will provide classrooms for grades 1-3 and the upper girls’ grades 6-10. The second floor will house two libraries, and science labs (general science for younger students; chemistry and biology/physics for the upper girls) and two age-appropriate computer labs. There will also be an art room.

Congratulations to the faculty and staff! We thank you for your contributions to the education of these children. You are living examples of the Forman Christian College motto, “by love serve one another.”
