Friends of Forman Welcomes New Executive Director

Beginning October 1, 2016, Rev. Samuel A. Schreiner III joins Friends of Forman as Executive Director.

Sam comes to us from Noroton Presbyterian Church in Darien, CT, having served there as Senior Pastor since 2004. Prior to his tenure at Noroton, Sam held the position of Adjunct Professor at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and also served as Pastor at two churches in New Hampshire. His thirty-three year career in the ministry provides the foundation necessary for success in this new role.

“The Board of Friends of Forman has unanimously selected Rev. Sam Schreiner to be our next Executive Director,” says Dr. Michael Murphy, Board Chair. “Sam has served on the Friends of Forman Board since 2008, most recently as Vice-Chair, and his knowledge of and passion for Forman Christian College will serve him and the organization well as he makes this transition.”

Sam first traveled to Forman Christian College in 2007. Of his new role with Friends of Forman, he says, “I’m thrilled to support students and staff at this historic college which has a highly regarded reputation and a strategic role to play in educating future leaders of Pakistan.”

Sam comes by his love of mission honestly; his family has deep roots in mission and service. From 1915 to 1940 his grandparents were United Presbyterian missionaries in India. Dr. John C. Heinrich, Sam’s grandfather, taught as part of the extension program of Forman Christian College; today the chapel at Taxila Hospital is dedicated to him. In addition to time spent in Pakistan, Sam’s personal mission work has taken him to Taiwan, New Zealand, the Dominican Republic, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Jordan. A common thread running through the three churches Sam has served in his career was partnering with mission agencies in Africa, Asia and Central America.

Dr. Jim Tebbe, College Rector at Forman Christian College and recent acting Director of Friends of Forman, says, “Sam understands the lasting impact support can make in Pakistan. Forman is educating the Pakistani leaders of the future. We provide an environment of Christian grace where human dignity is given to all, allowing for new understanding between Christians and Muslims, and men and women. Much like skipping a stone across a lake, the ripples flowing from Forman will carry far beyond the individual students to their families and into their communities. Sam already has a love for Forman and I know he will work tirelessly to support these efforts.”

Along with serving on the Friends of Forman Board, Sam has been a member of the Board of Trustees of Gordon College, Wenham, MA since 2009, serving on both the Presidential Search and Advancement committees. He is married to Deb, and they have three children and six grandchildren. In his spare time, Sam loves to read on a variety of topics, sail, golf and is an avid fan of the Red Sox and the Patriots.

Sam’s initial focus will be on relationship building with our donors, introducing himself and answering questions about Forman Christian College today. If you’d like to contact him, he can be reached at via email at sschreiner@friendsofforman.org
