THOUGHTS ON COMMENCEMENT FROM DR. JIM TEBBE

COMMENCEMENT 2016

The most rewarding day of the year for me is Commencement. The huge tent accommodates 2,500+, including families of graduating students, faculty in their robes, dignitaries like the Punjab Governor, and excited students who have worked so hard to achieve this goal. But, it is meeting graduates and their parents following the ceremony which I like the most. The introductions I find most moving are when there is a sophisticated, English-speaking, articulate graduate introducing me to a father who is a clerk, a rickshaw driver, or a farmer and a Punjabi-speaking mother who can hardly speak Urdu, much less read or write. Their son or daughter is now able to bring transformational change to not just their family but also generations to come.
